1. Why $97?
It's the lowest price I could think to set in order to raise the most amount of money for the cause. If 100 people sign up for the webinar series, then we'll have raised at least $9,700 (not counting matched contributions) and that can go a long way -- a very long way -- to helping a large number of people. If we get more than 100, that's fantastic.
2. Who is GlobalGiving.org?
Here's a link to GlobalGiving.org's site. They are a non profit organization set up to help people find worthy projects to support.
3. How much of your donation goes to the project?
Once you make a donation, before April 24, your contribution will be matched by 50%. GlobalGiving.org takes a 10% fee for transferring the money to our project. Because your donation is matched for a limited time, we are going through GlobalGiving.org to raise the money, because we'll raise more money overall. So, in fact, more than 100% of your donation will go to buy supplies for the project.
Once the matching donation offer expires, we'll give money to the project directly, in which case 100% of your contribution will go to the project -- not for administrative expenses, or anything else.
Every expense for the project will be documented by the project coordinators Amy McMillen (she works for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), and we'll post information about how your donations were used on the project update site.
Here is more information about the FAO and the project team.
4. Who is going to India?
I (Rob Booker) am going in June, to help deliver the supplies, train the local people, plant, and document how your donations are spent. An experienced project coordinator will be there with me. If you'd like to go with me, you can email me after you've made your donation and let me know.
I am traveling at my own expense, and so is the project coordinator. None of your donations will be used to cover any travel expenses.
5. What's the catch?
There is no catch. I just want to ask for your help in giving to others. I am not selling anything here to benefit my education business or anyone else. |
